There's No Chapter In 'Parenting For Dummies' That Covers This
-
Okay, this couple is in trouble for handcuffing their 17-year-old son to a pole, claiming that he was "out of control" bi-polar with ADHD and they could not afford his meds and had “run out of solutions to help him.†They also said he'd assaulted his stepmother. And, no, you can't handcuff anyone like that, but it does raise the question of what you CAN do in that situation. Your kid is mentally ill and might get violent, you can't afford meds for him, he's about old enough to be an adult, and you can't find help. What DO you do? You can't do what these people did -- you can't restrain the kid and you can't leave him in a terrible physical state -- and they probably aren't equipped on any level to deal with crises like this, but what can you do in that situation?
