The One Transit System Map Worth Framing
-
The London Underground is 150 years old, and it's still a marvel, even if some of the lines and stations give new meaning to the word "rickety" (and the unbelievably deep descent on countless escalators has at times made me feel like I could have walked to my destination faster, and enjoy changing lines at rush hour, because you'd better know where you're going). But the Tube is still cool, and even cooler is the iconic Tube map. Harry Beck's invention changed how transit maps were made by straightening out or curving lines into orderly diagrams, which warped reality but made it easier to find what's where. It's a work of art. (Los Angeles Times)
