Oh, Sure, You Like It When David Lee Roth Says It....

The assignment in the college writing class was, said the student, to write "raw things, a personal diary that maybe we wouldn't want anyone to read." So this guy, a 57-year-old home builder back in school because of the bad economy, wrote an essay entitled "Hot for Teacher, " about.. that. And he was thrown out of school for it, as a violation of the school code against intimidation or harassment. He's suing for $2.2 million and four lost credits. Granted, he followed the letter of the assignment, but should he be immune from the consequences of his speech? I mean, what if he confessed to murder in his essay? Or wrote about his uncontrollable lust for children? If there's a reasonable chance the content of the essay is true, what's the school to do? On the other hand, if it's clearly just an essay and there's no expectation that he'll act on it, is that enough to expel him? (Fox News)
