What The Market Will Bear
-
So, what do we make of fast-food workers striking for higher wages and trying to unionize? Here's the thing: the wages are low because the job skills needed to do their jobs are nonexistent. Anyone can do them. If they walk out, there are people ready to walk off the street and take their places. Is that worth a higher wage? They could easily be replaced by automation, too -- go to a Wawa and see how you order your food on a screen, and think about how you could take orders and payments with a tablet instead of a worker. Fast food frontline work is not supposed to be a career, is it? (NBC News)
