My Station Did Something There. I Didn't Go. I Might Have Been Fired By Then

It was a shock to learn that Gibson Amphitheatre is closing, because it's such a staple of concert venues in Los Angeles and because, even though it was announced over a year ago that they'd demolish the place to make way for a Harry Potter addition to the adjacent Universal Studios theme park, it was one of those "we'll believe it when we see it" deals. Now, it's official, the place is closing in September, abruptly enough that there were shows already booked and selling tickets past that time. The place was known for most of its history as Universal Amphitheatre, and everyone - Sinatra, Bowie, Kanye, five Presidents, the Pope - played there. Many radio station events, most notably KROQ's Almost Acoustic Christmas, were held there; honestly, there was nothing historic-feeling about it, but it's weird to think it won't be there anymore.
