She's in a wheelchair, paralyzed from the neck down. She has multiple sclerosis and she's in nearly unbearable pain, and she told the court that she fears choking to death because she can't swallow. Plus, suicide is no longer a crime in Ireland. So, it should not be a problem for her to ask the court for help in killing herself, right? No, a judge has ruled that she can't commit suicide with somebody else's help. in other words, if she kills herself with no assistance, it's all good. But because she can't do it herself, it's illegal. This brings up all sorts of issues regarding euthanasia and suicide. (NBC News)
