So, how is that stolen cell phone database going? Government officials say that it isn't working, and that the reason is, cell phone manufacturers and carriers have incentives to ignore the problem. After all, if your phone is stolen, and you can't get it back, you're going to buy a new one. If they help you find the phone, you won't buy a new one. And the person who stole yours isn't going to buy one, either. This isn't quite to change anytime soon, and the manufacturers and the carriers would prefer that you just shut up, pull out your credit card, and buy a new one, preferably a full price.
