The Supreme Court's ruling on college admissions affirmative action is sort of a punt -- it ruled 7-1 that race CAN be used in admissions, but made it harder for them to do so. And it sent the thing back to the lower court, telling it using race is predicated on there being "no workable race-neutral alternatives" to achieve diversity. So we're now going to end up with cases debating whether there's any other way to get a diverse student body. (CNN)
