Aspiring To More Than Mediocrity

The Sixers are clearly blowing things up and rebuilding, trading Jrue Holiday and a second round pick to New Orleans for Nerlens Noel and a 2014 first-round pick. Holiday's a star, but the reasoning is that they weren't going anywhere with him, and this way they kept the 11th pick, took an adequate replacement point guard, have Noel (and his bum wheels -- great, ANOTHER bad-knee center), will suck this season, and will end up with potentially TWO lottery picks next year, when the draft is likely to be loaded with pivotal talent. That's the plan, at least. The Celtics, with the rumors of the KG-Pierce trade to Brooklyn and the draft trade, are seemingly thinking about the same thing -- tank now, clear cap room, profit later. If you're a fan of a middling team, do you want them to start over, lose for a year or two, and shoot for the heights later, or would you rather see them try to be more respectable with a more remote possibility of winning it all?
