This'll Sure Make People Want To Keep The USPS Going
-
There's a new sheriff in town in Vernon Township, NJ, a rural part of Sussex County. Okay, he's not a sheriff, he's a new postmaster. And he decided unilaterally that having the carrier drive up the road into a summer sleepaway camp on a seasonal basis to deliver packages and letters from campers' families, something that had been done since 1941, was no longer permissible. He read the rules to forbid the drive and to require the camp to make a 45 minute drive to the post office every day. After the Newark Star-Ledger put some pressure on them, his USPS superiors are saying that they can leave the packages by the roadside mailbox while they search for a permanent solution. Which raises the question: Why was it okay for 72 years and not now? (Newark Star-Ledger)
