The Sporting News did a list of the worst major league everyday starting players, by position. My Phillies (ugh) had only one, Michael Young, and, sadly, old GIDP isn't even the worst performer they've had this year (I guess the departed Delmon Young wasn't eligible). The "winners," based on WAR, OPS, and other stats: Paul Konerko at first, Rickie Weeks at second, Adeiny Hechavarria at short (wasn't he supposed to be a superstar in the making?), Michael Young at third (oh, why didn't they trade him for... anything?), Vernon Wells, Eric Young, and -- this is a shock, since he has 25 homers -- Raul Ibanez in the outfield, J.P. Arencibia behind the plate (18 homers but bad defense), and Maicer Izturis as a utility player (wait, didn't they say everyday?). Also not adhering to the "everyday" part is their inclusion of pitchers: Joe Blanton (no kidding), Lucas Harrell (you'd expect more Astros), Jerome Williams (man, the Angels staff is awful), and, in the bullpen, Huston Street (only one blown save, but his WAR and FIP suck). Agree? Fair? (The Sporting News)
