So They're Number One In At Least One Thing
-
Forbes claims that the Houston Astros, the last-place, miserable Houston Astros, are the most profitable team for a single season in baseball, ever. No, you read that right, Forbes estimates that they made $99 million in operating profit, the beneficiaries of a ridiculously low payroll and high media rights fees. But the Astros deny everything. And it's not like the Astros' plan -- gut the major league team, load up on prospects, build from the bottom up -- or treatment of fans -- prices are relatively reasonable as far as major league teams go -- are all that outrageous and unusual. Still, if you're an Astros fan, would you rather they take that profit and buy some talent or pay down their debt? (Forbes.com; MLB.com)
