A Local Beach For Local People
-
I bet wherever you live, there's a prejudice among the locals against people from a certain other area. Manhattanites hate "bridge and tunnel" people. Beach locals look down upon "snowbirds" or, at the Jersey shore, "shoobies" or "bennies" from the city. And in Huntington Beach, CA ("Surf City, U.S.A."), the prejudice is against the 909ers. Those are, now, anyone from outside Orange County, but 909 is the area code for the Inland Empire, an area that is, well, less advantaged. Okay, the image is of trailer parks, meth labs, and pickup trucks. And with Huntington Beach seeing a rise in street violence, the locals are blaming the outsiders and pulling the "Locals Only" card.
