Socially Acceptable Nowhere But The Ball Park

Let's take a break from wondering why the Washington Redskins don't change their name to focus on the one-and-done Cleveland Indians and their mascot Chief Wahoo. At the Wild Card Game, fans were shown wearing redface, made up to look like the Indians logo. Is this the equivalent of blackface? Forget about intent; just imagine any other ethnicity portrayed in the most extreme cartoonish stereotypical manner, and imagine it being a team's logo, whether it be a black or Jewish or Arab or Latino or any other minority stereotype. And imagine fans dressing up like that logo. Yeah, see, you can't imagine anyone getting away with it. Yet, here we are in 2013 with guys painted red with a huge white grin and feathered headdresses.
