Just Remind Yourself It's Not Real

I will not tell you what happened on episode three of the new season of "Downton Abbey," which is airing in the U.K. (and won't air in the U.S. until January, and I will refrain from comment as to how someone may have seen it in the U.S. without waiting, because that would be wrong. Yes, wrong. What?). All I will tell you -- and you can find out the spoiler if you really want it, but I won't be telling you what it was -- is that a popular character has something really bad happen to (gender-specific pronoun redacted). REALLY bad. And the fans are appalled, because a popular character... oh, yeah, if you click the link and don't want to know what happens, by all means do NOT scroll down. Anyway, it's bad, even for a series whose last series was a bloodbath of sorts (not exactly literally, like on "Game of Thrones," but characters died). And the question is: What would it take for you to just stop watching a show you love? A character killed off or horribly treated? A really terrible plot twist? How long do you give a show that's gone off the rails (cough"Homeland"cough) before you bail, and do you give it a second chance? (Sydney Morning Herald)
