A lot of prominent people passed away this week, included among them being Lou Reed, at 71, rock legend for good reason -- everyone knows "Walk on the Wild Side," but there were a lot more ("Rock and Roll" and "Sweet Jane" would qualify as classics, and "Metal Machine Music" stands as one of the great F-Yous of all time, an unlistenable piece of "art" used to fulfill his RCA contract). And, of course, Marcia Wallace, Mrs. Krabappel and Carol the receptionist and courageous breast cancer survivor, at 70. Basketball player (years with the Celtics, named to the NBA's 50 greatest players list) and coach (Lakers' first L.A. title) Bill Sharman, dead at 87. And stuntman-turned-director Hal Needham -- "Smokey and the Bandit"! "Cannonball Run"! -- at 82. If they're supposed to go in threes, we're one over.
