Well, He Clearly Knows Bad Lawyering When He Sees It
-
There's a larger issue in the case of Kennedy nephew Michael Skakel and the ruling that his high-priced attorney Mickey Sherman may have screwed up the defense so badly that a retrial is in order. See, you may know Sherman as a TV legal analyst long used by CNN and Headline News to banter about other cases. He became a media celebrity of sorts. But if the court's correct, at least in the Skakel case, he wasn't a good lawyer. My topic here is how media "experts" are qualified. I'm looking directly at you, hosts. You put people on the air as "experts" who don't know anything, because, well, they SAY they're experts. I see people go on the air as "media experts" and "talk radio experts" who, um, aren't. It's a free and easy way to fill a segment or two, but you do the audience a grave disservice by giving air time to these people. (New York Times)
