Overwork's Bad. So Is No Work
-
The recent spate of lawsuits over corporate internships has spooked companies to the point where some companies are eliminating their programs while others are urging interns not to work so hard. This will improve conditions for interns but will likely shrink the number of available slots and, probably, kill off the reason for the programs' existence, the foot-in-the-door aspect of the jobs. After all, if you can't have the interns do those jobs nobody else wants to do, why have interns around at all? On the other hand, when Merrill Lynch pushed people into all-nighters to the point that someone died from exhaustion, something has to be done. (ABC News)
