You knew this already, but a study puts numbers behind the idea that college textbooks are outrageously expensive. How about this: Between 2002 and 2013, prices rose 82%. The average student spends about $1,200 a year on textbooks. And some students are skipping buying required books even if they know it'll lead to lower grades, because, well, too expensive. The publishers object, saying that they don't use tactics like new editions every three years to jack up prices and kill the used market. Where's that vaunted changeover to digital, anyway? (CNBC)
