YouTube makes stars. We know that. But can those stars make money? In this New York Times article, it's pointed out that even for the hottest YouTube "acts," the money somehow isn't what they want it be, and the ad rates have dropped to the point where, after the service takes its 40%, there's not much left. They point out that you CAN use the videos to make money in other ways, but how many t-shirts can you sell? On the other other hand, does anyone owe you a living for making a bunch of seven minute "shows" in your home, no matter how many people click? (New York Times)
