This high school senior claims that her parents threw her out of the house when she turned 18 and owe her an education and support. The parents say she left voluntarily and didn't want to live by their rules -- including dumping a "bad influence" boyfriend. And a political rival of her dad's is putting her up and funding her lawsuit. According to lawyers, parents can't unilaterally declare a kid emancipated at 18; there are other factors. And there seem to be a lot of issues in this case that are complicating matters. But for your purposes, it's whether parents can pull the plug on support the second the kid becomes a legal adult.
