The Government We Deserve
-
The thing that gets me about the arrest of California State Senator Leland Yee on corruption charges -- linked to the arrest of alleged San Francisco Chinatown gangster Raymond "Shrimp Boy Chow -- is that this is the THIRD prominent legislator of the dominant ruling Democratic majority in Sacramento under indictment. THREE. It's not about the party, either -- it's about corruption at the highest levels of state government, and that the voters tolerate it. That's what gets me. We have a history of re-electing corrupt politicians, and when they get caught, we vote in their associates, because the state is so locked into solidly Democratic and solidly Republican districts, and so permanently apportioned, that it will never change. And we're doomed. (KGO-TV/San Francisco)
