It's History. Shallow, Ephemeral, Frivolous History, But History

The shutdown of the Daily Candy and Television Without Pity websites -- once hugely popular, now an afterthought due to a lot of competition -- by NBCUniversal was sad enough for fans, but worse was the company's announcement that it would take the archives off the Internet. After pressure from users, the company changed its mind and will now leave the archives up. And why didn't they do that in the first place? It'll cost little for them to leave the material up, and it would be a shame to hide it all, especially TWOP, which practically invented the snarky TV recap, something that's become a staple of the Internet. It would have been like a library taking all of its books and locking them in a room where the public couldn't see them. (Re/code)
