A new book asserts that saturated fats may not be that bad for you. Say what? The author says that the idea that saturated fats cause heart disease came from the 1961 dietary recommendations, which were based on total cholesterol. Since then, science has separated good cholesterol from bad cholesterol. She also notes that the original research cherry-picked the nations studied and ignored countries where diets are fatty but lifespans are long. Other scientists say not so fast, saturated fats are still bad for you. So, what do we do with this information? (CNN)
