Dunkin's Coming Back To California. Let's See If They Know 'Coffee Regular' Out Here
-
If you're a New Englander, you go to Dunkin' Donuts and you order "coffee regular," which everyone there knows is coffee with cream and sugar (three cream, three sugar). Simple. But you stray outside the region, order that, and they'll look at you like you're crazy. This article from the Boston Globe's Boston.com sought to answer the question, where does "coffee regular" end? Turns out you have to go clear across the border to New York before the term ceases to mean cream and sugar and begins to be interpreted as not-decaf. What local customs and terms do you have, and where on the map do they end? Like hoagie vs. sub vs. grinder, or soda vs. pop? (Boston.com)
