This short article notes the phenomenon of the summer slide, the "fact" -- it's more anecdotal than anything else -- that kids tend to lose ground academically during the summer months. Really? I know this is really a campaign to keep kids in school year-round, but where does it stop? Are kids not allowed to get any time off? Why let them go home in the afternoon, then? Why not take them at 3 years old and lock them in school until they're 18? Can't kids be kids anymore? (KYW/Philadelphia)
