Booze, Tourists, Guns, And An Anything-Goes Attitude. What Could Go Wrong?
-
After nine people, including tourist bystanders, were shot on Bourbon Street Sunday morning, the New Orleans tourism people were hard at work trying to spin the news so that it doesn't hurt business. It's an exception, they said. Tourists usually don't get shot. It usually happens outside the quarter, in sketchy neighborhoods. All is well. But New Orleans has a lot of work to do to calm fears, because it IS a violent city. And I say that as someone who dearly loves that town. Then again, I don't spend too much time in the French Quarter. Too touristy, too many drunk morons causing trouble. (New Orleans Times Picayune/NOLA.com)
