Better Isn't Always Better

They are a LOT better, as picture quality is concerned. Blacks are blacker, there's not that annoying blockiness, the viewing angle's way wider. But the people have spoken with their wallets, and so Samsung joins the long list of companies ending production of plasma TVs. LG's the last left of the majors, and they're expected to follow suit. It's all LCD and LED now, and the plasma capacity will be used to make curved and UHD sets. Plasma's drawbacks are numerous -- bulkier, heavier sets, burn-in, power consumption, more expensive -- but there's always been a market for better picture quality. Now, with people watching "TV" on cell phones and tablets and computers, not so much. (BBC)
