If Tickets Were Free, Maybe The Low Pay Would Make More Sense. But They're Not
-
That lawsuit over very low pay for minor leaguers gets this feature treatment by the Hartford Courant, and it raises anew the question of whether these guys should "gut it out" and sacrifice with sub-living wages for months to chase the major league dream, or whether, considering that they're performers making money for corporations, they should be paid at least enough to survive the year. As it is, sharing apartments or living with "host families" is the least of their financial troubles; they often don't make enough to pay for practically anything, AND it cuts into their ability to work a real job in the off-season (when they're also expected to devote full-time to working out). So, is the system broken? (Hartford Courant)
