So, This Kershaw Fellow, He's Quite The Pitcher, Eh? Haven't Seen Him

When I tweeted something about the Dodgers/Time Warner vs. cable competitors and DirecTV standoff, which, this article updates us, is still going on and depriving most of us in L.A. of watching the Dodgers (and Vin Scully, though you can hear him do a few innings of home games on the radio simulcast), a reporter for a sports network dismissed my comments that this would be an important battle that could last a while by almost scolding me for saying that people were fed up with paying for games and channels they don't want nor watch. She said that it's just the way the business is, and too bad, basically. But the standoff continues, and I think you'll find that most consumers in Southern California, even Dodger fans, don't care that much, or blame everyone. The market has changed, and the people in sports and cable are, of course, the last to know. And as much as we're peppered with ads exhorting us to call and demand our Dodgers, I don't think people are doing that. I love baseball -- I pay for MLB.tv on the computer, but my team isn't blacked out -- and, yeah, I'd like the Dodger games to be on TV, but I can live without them. And if it's gonna cost me another five bucks a month, I'd prefer to have the choice of whether to pay or not. It's not my problem if the Time Warner deal only financially works if they can force non-fans to pay, and they can't get that done. They overpaid, but I don't want to bail them out.
