Once Again, It's Blame-The-Dog Time
-
An inquest has determined that a woman who died a few months ago in England was killed by an infection and septic shock resulting from a dog licking her hand. That's all it took. This is a very rare thing, and happened mostly because she'd lost her spleen in 1988 after it ruptured in a fight with her then-partner, so her ability to fight off what would otherwise be a minor infection was compromised. What's scary is that after the spleen was removed, she was taking penicillin twice daily, and that SHOULD have killed off the bacteria. It didn't. That's disturbing. (The Daily Telegraph)
