And One Day, She's Not There Anymore
-
There are people you see every day, people you say hello to, maybe chat a little, and you may know them by a first name or nickname, but you don't really KNOW them. And when they're gone, you feel it as if you DID know them. In El Paso, there was a woman who would go to the bars and clubs -- including most of the clubs in the Pride Square gay district -- and sell candy from a little white tray. All the denizens of local nightlife saw her all the time, would chat with her, would get advice from her. They knew her as the Candy Lady. And when she got killed by a passing truck the other day, all of those people who knew her but didn't really know her took to social media to mourn her passing and commemorate her stature on the local scene. All of this is to note that maybe you should spend just a few extra seconds with the people like her who are in your life, while they're still around. They'd surely like to hear how you feel about them before it's too late. (KTSM-TV/El Paso)
