Your Tax Dollars Are Their Free Money
-
The burgeoning scandal over iPad purchase contracts by the Los Angeles Unified School District has greater implications, and should be a cautionary tale for everyone. For example, an audit can't account for $2 million in iPads and computers. The money just disappeared. They spent $67 million in two years on these things and they didn't track where the money went? That's because the government is arrogant about the money they take from you. They play on your best impulses to get you to pay more in school taxes, and then they put the money in their pockets, or hand out sweetheart deals to friendly contractors, or hire cronies, and then they'll come back to you and say they need more money, and you'll say yes because it's for the kids, yet it never actually gets to the classroom. We are suckers, and they know it, which is how millions go missing - they rip us off because they CAN rip us off. (Los Angeles Times)
