And he determined that people want frivolous celebrity news instead of serious news, like stories in which they could see themselves, and ads that appear to be part of the content -- "native advertising" -- works. The pollster? George Gallup himself. The year? 1928. Yes, his survey predicted what the news became on the Internet -- insubstantial click bait with "native" ads galore.
