But, Let's Face It, They Need Clean Toilet Facilities Anyway
-
Everything You Know Is Wrong: The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has been on the forefront of building sanitary latrines in Third World countries and in India, where, well, you know how they dump in fields and rivers and stuff. So the Gates Foundation commissioned a study to show how putting in toilet facilities would improve poor childrens' health, and they got the results... which showed that the facilities had no effect on the health of the children in the poor villages. Diarrhea rates were the same. Parasitic worms: Still there. Kids in villages without latrines were in the same shape as kids with the facilities. So, should the money be spent instead on clean water sources, vaccines, treatment? (New York Times)
