Whaddya Know, An Ump People Will Root For
-
Revolutions sometimes come in small, quiet ways, and so the practically incidental revelation in an interview with an obscure referees' trade magazine that Major League Baseball umpire Dale Scott is gay is another step forward, not in the tabloidy Michael Sam way but in a way that says it's really not anything out of the ordinary. Scott has never kept it secret; MLB has his husband on record for benefits, other umps and players know, and they universally say a) it's fine with them and b) he's a good ump, one of the best. And it's these cases, when someone you work with and know and like, just happens to be gay, when prejudices start to wither away. (Bleacher Report)
