Ratner Gets His Arena, Prokhorov Gets His Money, The Fans... Not So Much
-
The team denies it, but several sources are backing Bloomberg News' report that Mikhail Prokhorov is trying to sell the Brooklyn Nets already, and this should be happy news for the suckers... er, taxpayers who allowed the Atlantic Yards/Barclays Center project to be built using eminent domain to clear out the existing residents and businesses for the benefit of Prokhorov and Bruce Ratner. When all's said and done, Prokhorov, who's probably been battered by the Russian financial crisis, and Ratner will walk away with a lot of money, maybe even more than the Clippers' $2 billion sale price. The city will get none of it. The team doesn't even sell out and half of the fans in attendance are rooting for the visiting team. Win-win all around. (Bloomberg)
