Somewhere, Derrick Coleman Is Saying 'Whoop-De-Damn-Doo'

New Jersey has a spare arena. While Prudential Center in Newark is the state-of-the-art modern one with all the amenities and the major league sports franchise and top college team, the old Meadowlands arena, in recent years called Izod Center, has been sitting there used just for concerts, the occasional ice show, and high school graduations. But the state, which owns the thing, has been dithering over whether to close it, sell it, or, well, they don't know. But Governor Christie wanted to close it, maybe to help the Prudential Center be without direct competition. So, they've just struck a deal to shut the Izod Center down for two years. Does that mean it's closing, period? Unclear. Is there any use for a redundant 20,000 seat arena without enough luxury boxes or a team? (Newark Star-Ledger/NJ.com)
