Screw Their Hashtag, Just Post It To Your Own Account
-
Warning: If you participate in one of those Facebook/Twitter/Instagram photo things where a TV station or newspaper says, "Hey, post your blizzard photos with the hashtag #(name of station)BlizzardWatch," they may behave as if they own your picture, using it however they want -- in ads, on other sites, whatever, without credit, for free -- and claiming that you implied consent with the hashtag. Is this the law? That's unclear, because the law never accounted for social media. All I'm saying is that if you don't want your work appropriated, don't give it away like that. (KYW-TV/Philadelphia)
