When they come to you for a tax increase for schools, do you automatically support it, because, well, it's for the kids? Remember that for every case like this one in which a school principal in New York used school funds to build a private gym in the building for herself -- she says it's also for "older students," but the oldest kids in that school are too small for the equipment -- there are other cases that never get reported. If they want a tax increase, you should ask what for. And then follow up to make sure they spend it as they promised. Funny how they ask for more money for supplies and books, then give the central office staff raises and still complain that there's not enough money for supplies and books. (New York Post)
