At Least They're Not Throwing Quarters Out The Window Anymore
-
This one's for those who have toll roads with EZ Pass or FasTrak or other kinds of automated toll collecting: Pennsylvania Turnpike toll collectors want EZ Pass users to slow down as they go through the toll booths. The speed limit's 5 mph, but people blow through at 30 mph or more. And since there are people -- collectors -- walking between booths, you can see the problem. Perhaps the very idea that there are still toll collectors and booths is the problem, though. If you have to slow to 5 mph, doesn't that defeat the purpose of not slowing traffic? (Here, they took out the booths on the 73 toll road in Orange County; if you don't have a transponder, they photograph your plates and you pay online within 5 days. What happens if you don't have plates, like with new cars, they don't say, but I think it might be that you get away without paying....). (KYW-TV/Philadelphia)
