There Are Just So Many Things We Can Carry Before Something Gives
-
As we approach Mobile World Congress, and sales figures tell a story very different from two years ago, the question arises: Is the rise of the tablet over? Sales have stagnated, and the industry's wondering why. I think it's two things: One, a lot of people bought them and don't need to upgrade. Two, let's face it, if you have a big phone, you probably don't need a tablet. Okay, let's add a third: If you need to use a computer, a tablet won't replace it, but if you don't need a full computer for what you do, a big phone will suffice. I think these are all true, based on my own experience, which is that having an iPhone 6 Plus means I leave the iPad home while still using the laptop for heavy-duty work. A tablet's nice for reading books and magazines, but the phone and the computer are better for everything else. (BBC)
