Come On, Guys, There's Room For Everyone

Can't we all just get along? Apparently not on hiking/biking trails: In yet another case of "trail rage" in the Bay Area, a hiker says she was assaulted by a bicyclist while she tried to get cell phone pictures of him, all after they collided on the trail in one of those you-get-out-of-the-way-no YOU-get-out-of-MY-way things. Now, as a runner who has to sometimes deal with aggressive bicyclists taking over the trails here, here's the thing: Most bikers are actually just fine, either indifferent or flat out nice, and I yield because I'm going slower than they are. Works fine. Over the last 20 years of running the same trails every day, I can count bad behavior incidents on one hand, really on a couple of fingers. That would be higher if I didn't just voluntarily yield. It doesn't have to be a problem. And we're not in a real race. (San Francisco Chronicle)
