Baseball - Can't Bleat It!
-
Minor League Baseball's New Britain Rock Cats are moving to Hartford, just a few miles up the road, to a new downtown ballpark in 2017. And with the ballpark, they'll be taking on a new name. The name: The Hartford Yard Goats. The name is a nickname for railway workers, apparently, but the public so far thinks this name is awful. But it fits with more recent new team names and is clearly aimed at merchandising. And they'll point out that when the New Britain Red Sox changed their name to the Hardware City Rock Cats 20 years ago (has it been that long?), people hated it... and now they love it. So there's that. There's also spending a lot of money on a ballpark when the one in New Britain's perfectly fine and not that old (I remember going to the old Beehive Field and THAT wasn't so bad, either).
