Humans anthropomorphize animals to the extent that we interfere with nature. That's why a guy camping in a national forest who discovered an abandoned moose calf after the mother had died in childbirth. He "took a few photos with it," the article says, then called the sheriff, who sent the Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks folks, who came out and euthanized and blew up the moose calf, because the calf couldn't survive without suckling its mom and because even if it could be rehabbed, the moose would also carry disease. The camper's appalled and says he wouldn't have called if he had known. But that's nature -- leave the calf alone and some other animal would kill and eat it. That's the wild for you. (CNN)
