His Numbers Never Lied

Dead: Harvey Pollack, and if you don't know that name, and you're a basketball fan, you should. He was the man who practically invented the stats you know and follow in basketball, the statistician who worked with the NBA since its inception (in 1946, when it started as the BAA) and was the Philadelphia Warriors and 76ers stat maven all the way through. He was also the guy who, thinking quickly when Wilt Chamberlain scored 100 points for the Warriors in Hershey in 1962, grabbed a piece of paper, scrawled "100" on it, and gave it to Wilt to hold up, resulting in the iconic post-game photo. And for years, I would eagerly await the Sixers' media guide/yearbook to see all the ridiculously detailed stats he'd come up with. (KYW-TV/Philadelphia)
