Why I Do All My Camping In Hotels
-
The first thought after reading this one about a Florida woman killed by lightning while hiking at Mogollon Rim in Arizona is, well, you have a thunder and lightning storm rolling in, you shouldn't take shelter under a tree as she and her fellow hikers did. But then I thought, you're in a sparsely vegetated area, there's practically no shelter at all, it's coming down in sheets... where DO you go? The storm hit suddenly, so it's not like they knew it was coming. What can you do? What would have been a better idea? Either you're under a tree, which attracts lightning, or you're a drenched lump in a flat, open area, in which case you're also a lightning rod. There are not a lot of options. (KTVK-KPHO-TV/Phoenix)
