Plenty Famous Enough
-
Dead: Cilla Black, a star in the U.K. circa Beatlemania who never crossed over to U.S. fame. She was a superstar on the British charts -- 11 Top 10 hits -- and had her own TV variety show for years, then became the host of several other TV shows. She did have one hit in the American Top 40 ("You're My World," number 26 in 1964), but that was pretty much it. And for U.S. talk, the question is whether you have to be famous in America to be famous at all. Because she wasn't famous in America but surely was in the U.K. (and Australia, for that matter).
