And It's Still A Convenient Way To Identify Your Neighborhood White Supremacists

This wire service story moved this weekend headlined, "Some Americans Refuse to Give up on Confederate Flag," and it's about the people who, for reasons of "heritage" or anti-government sentiment, keep flying the Stars 'n' Bars. And it keeps raising the question once again: Is that the heritage you want to uphold? Do Germans want to fly swastikas to "honor their heritage"? Do Russians want to fly the hammer and sickle to "honor their heritage"? Maybe you can't or shouldn't ban the Confederate flag because it's part of history, but it's hardly a part of history of which to be proud, especially proud enough to attach it to your pickup or emblazon it on your t-shirt. By the same token, though, someonethrew stones through the windows of a man's truck that had the Stars 'n' Bars on it. He says it was because of the flag. If we assume that, it's not excusable to throw stones at someone's property, but clearly, he knows people find that flag a symbol of the reprehensible; if he's careful enough to cover it up when out and back into his driveway to hide it, why would he want to keep it on his truck?
