Do They Require Performers Of Other Religions To Declare Anything? Didn't Think So
-
Days after a Norwegian film festival announced that it would refuse to show an Israeli film on disabled kids because it showed a positive thing in Israel and didn't talk about the Palestinian conflict, a Spanish music festival banned American Jewish reggae star Matisyahu for refusing to proclaim support for the Palestinians. They required this because.... um.... well, he's Jewish. Not Israeli. And he's not involved in any way with the Israeli-Palestinian issue other than that he happens to be a Jew. While it is possible to take a stand against Israel on the Palestinian conflict and not be anti-Semitic, in cases like this, it's hard to see a delineation between anti-Israel sentiment and anti-Semitism.
